Dauðalogn
Dauðalogn is a hauntingly beautiful song by Sigur Rós from their album Valtari. There are lyrics from one stanza, in Icelandic and English.
inn á við held ég
viðarglæður birta bál
einn með mér sjálfum
anda inn anda frá
...dauðalogn
inwards I think
embers light a bonfire
one with myself...dead calm
breathe in breathe out
...dead calm
So this is the design and text for a tattoo I've devised from the lyrics, for my left side, under my arm, Aniron font, 25 cm.
Sigur Rós's "Mystery Film Experiment"
Sigur Rós devised a film contest, inviting film makers and video directors and generally anyone with talent and imagination, to create an original video for tracks from Valtari. Here are some of the videos using Dauðalogn from their challenge. I like watching a film again and simply to pay full attention to the score and how it's devised to work on your emotions. I'm watching but really listening to Dead Calm, and I wonder at just how much the music changes what I'm looking at. But writing like this is mind-numbing. Just watch and listen.
ps, All the videos can be played at the same time; click play on the first, and then offset each by say, 15 seconds, play each one after another. hit repeat when one finishes. Or try to get them all in sync as best you can. The reverberation is chilling...endless dead calm......
